We are excited to share that The Strasburg School District has been selected to receive the following PLTW (Project Lead The Way) grant for Middle School Gateway Implementation:

Grantee Name:  Strasburg Elem. Program:  PLTW Gateway Total Estimated Grant Value: $9,100

This grant will cover the implementation of Middle School PLTW for grades 6-8. PLTW will take the place of Exploratory classes beginning in the fall of 2023. Three teachers will attend training over the summer to become PLTW certified in the following areas: Medical Detective, Science of Technology, and Flight and Space. Since the grant will cover three years of PLTW, not including supplies, we look to expand this program in the future.

Through explorations of coding and robotics, flight and space, human body systems, and more, PLTW Gateway fuels students’ passion for discovery. As they engage in hands-on, collaborative problem-solving focused on real-world challenges, students use and stretch their imaginations in brand-new ways and connect their learning to life. All the while, students step into roles spanning the career landscape – a crucial experience during this transitional time in their lives.

Each PLTW Gateway unit engages students in middle school STEM curriculum that not only builds knowledge and skills in areas including computer science, engineering, and biomedical science, but also empowers students to develop essential skills such as problem-solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and perseverance.
