Subject: Welcome Back to Strasburg C-3 School for the 2023-2024 Academic Year!

Dear Strasburg C-3 Families,

I hope this letter finds you well and that you have had a fantastic summer break. As we prepare for the upcoming academic year, I want to share some important information and updates.

First and foremost, I am thrilled to welcome all our students back to Strasburg C-3 on August 22, 2023. I am eager to hear about their summer adventures and see their smiling faces again. Over the summer, our dedicated staff, Terri and Andrew, have been working hard to make improvements to the building. They have been doing deep cleaning, painting, floor stripping, and general repairs to ensure a safe and pleasant learning environment for our students. Additionally, we are nearing completion of Phase II of our bond issue projects, which include numerous upgrades and additions to various areas of the school. These improvements encompass a new gym roof, cafeteria restrooms, flooring in all bathrooms, middle school lockers, office spaces with a secured vestibule, counselor's and assistant principal's offices, Title Reading and Speech classrooms, PAT office, Library Media Center, 1st-grade classroom, teacher workroom, and an enhanced Kindergarten classroom. Furthermore, we have installed windows in the 2nd and 3rd-grade classrooms and the health room. We have also implemented security cameras and a new fire alarm system to enhance security. The construction workers will install the car rider canopy in the last week of August. Looking ahead, Phase III of our projects, scheduled to begin in September, will involve the installation of bullet-proof window coverings throughout the district and re-keying the entire district. We are immensely grateful for your continued support, as these much-needed changes would not have been possible without your assistance.

Mark your calendars for August 16, 2023, as we will host our Open House event from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Open House will be an excellent opportunity to meet our teachers, tour the school, and familiarize yourself with the classrooms. School supply lists are available on the district website and can be found under the documents tab if you use the district app. Please bring your child's school supplies to the Open House event. Also, Laura Mooney will collect technology fees for grades 3-8 during the Open House. Devices will be distributed to students during the first week of school, but please note that due to the high number of damaged Chromebooks, devices will remain at school and will only be sent home with students if needed for a potential AMI day or long-term absence. The technology fee will act as insurance and cover any initial Chromebook repairs. If you have any technology-related questions, don't hesitate to contact Laura Mooney.

We are excited to introduce some new faces to our school community. Maycie Preston will join us as a Kindergarten teacher, and Kailey Griffith will teach Middle School ELA. We also have Julie Ann joining us as a Paraprofessional, Breanna Miller as a Parents As Teachers staff member, and Patty Stark as our Speech & Language Pathologist and Federal Programs Director. Furthermore, I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Kristin Tribble will still serve as a part-time assistant principal again this year. She will handle student discipline and classroom concerns in addition to being the 6th-8th grade Social Studies teacher and continuing as the Curriculum Director. To ensure efficient communication, please follow the chain of command for discipline and classroom concerns: classroom teacher, assistant principal, and then principal/superintendent.

Online student enrollment will run from August 1, 2023, until August 15, 2023. The school will be open from August 1st to August 3rd, between 8 am and 2 pm, for new student enrollment or those needing computer access. Instructions for online enrollment can be found on the district website under the Enrollment heading under the Parent-Student Resources tab.

Lastly, important calendar dates and district information can be found on the district website. The website will be the primary form of district communication as we strive to enhance communication. Please download the district app and sign up for notifications to stay updated on the latest news and events.

I look forward to a successful and rewarding academic year with you and your children. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the office. Enjoy the rest of your summer, and we will see you soon!

Best regards,

Dr. Chrystal Mayfield

Superintendent
