I. ATHLETICS UPDATE

Lone Jack has approved an all-activity coop; however, they are going back to revisit the cost associated with this coop.

Pleasant Hill has approved an all activity coop, with no additional cost to the district.

Kingsville is interested in a coop for volleyball, basketball, and cross country with no additional cost to the district.

At this time, we are waiting to hear back from Lone Jack before making our decision in January or February.

II. HUMAN RESOURCES-UPDATE

At this time, we have not received any applications for our middle school math position.

III. PROJECT LEAD THE WAY

Dr. Mayfield has applied for two additional PLTW, sponsored by John Deere grants. The first grant would allow us to include APP Creator and Green Architecture into our middle school EXPLO curriculum. It would also allow us to offer the Magic of Electrons through our middle school science curriculum.

The second PLTW grand, also sponsored by John Deere, would allow us to expand PLTW programing into K-5 classrooms. Mrs. Adams has volunteered to pilot the fourth grade PTLW model by implementing it into our 4th grade science curriculum. If the pilot is successful, we can explore expanding it into other K-5 classrooms.

If awarded, both grants will cover the cost of all supplies and teacher training. This would also include the classroom set of tablets needed for the App Creator module.

IV. MOCATT FUNDS

In response to the projected lower interest rates starting January 1, 2024, MOCATT Operational Funds are undergoing strategic adjustments through the creation of a reserve ladder. The funds are being divided into two components, each invested in U.S. Treasury securities to optimize returns.

The first component involves a Treasury Bill with a maturity date of 5/30/2024, carrying an interest rate of 5.197%. The face value of this bill is $256,000.00, resulting in net proceeds of $249,792.71 upon maturity. This choice is aligned with a shorter-term strategy, allowing for a timely reassessment of investment options as interest rates evolve.

The second component comprises a Treasury Note set to mature on 11/30/2024, offering an interest rate of 4.998%. With a face value of $258,000.00, this note yields net proceeds of $249,537.85 at maturity. The slightly longer duration of this investment provides MOCATT with flexibility, capitalizing on the favorable interest rate until the latter part of 2024.

By creating a reserve ladder with diverse maturity dates and interest rates, MOCATT aims to balance returns in the context of the changing interest rate environment. This strategy allows for periodic reassessment and reinvestment, ensuring adaptability to market conditions while optimizing the use of operational funds. Overall, the movement of funds into this dual-tiered Treasury portfolio reflects a prudent and proactive approach to financial management in anticipation of the projected economic changes.
