News Report: Strasburg C-3 School District Provides Updates on Tax Levy

The Strasburg C-3 Board of Education will meet on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, to set the district’s tax rate. In advance of this meeting, the district would like to clear up some common questions and misconceptions regarding the tax levy and property taxes.

How the Process Works
Property tax valuations are set by the Cass County Assessor, not the school district. Strasburg C-3 has maintained the same tax rate of 5.4748 since 2011.

About Recent Voter-Approved Measures

  • Project K.I.D.S. (2022): A voter-approved bond issue for district improvements. This bond did not increase taxes.

  • Project K.I.T.S. (2025): A voter-approved levy transfer. This allowed the district to move funds from the debt service levy to the operating fund to meet the legally required increase in teacher and staff salaries. This levy transfer also did not increase taxes.

Proposed Tax Rate for 2025
At the August 20 meeting, the proposed tax rate will remain 5.4748. The Board will also consider whether to prepay $65,000 of the 2022A General Obligation Bonds, which would save taxpayers approximately $4,100 in interest expenses. This prepayment would come from the debt service levy.

Commitment to Transparency
Taxes and tax rates can be confusing, and when details are unclear, misinformation can spread. The district encourages community members to reach out directly for accurate information.
